By Air: The nearest airport is Dibrugarh Airport (DIB) in Assam, roughly 350–400 km away, well connected to major Indian cities. From Dibrugarh, travelers continue by road toward Tezu and onward to Walong. By Rail: The nearest railway station is Tinsukia Junction in Assam, about 120–350 km away, from where taxis or buses continue the journey toward Tezu. By Road: From Dibrugarh, drive to Tezu via NH-52, taking around 5–7 hours, with a stop at the Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dhola-Sadiya Bridge) along the way. From Tezu, continue to Walong, a journey of roughly 7–9 hours along the Lohit River valley, passing Hawa Camp and Wakro. Roads become progressively rougher once inside Arunachal Pradesh, and the full journey from Dibrugarh can take 12–14 hours by car. The Sunrise Trek: Dong village itself isn't reachable by road — from Walong, visitors trek roughly 6–8 km (about 2–2.5 hours) uphill through pine forests to the sunrise viewpoint. Trekkers typically set out around 1:00–3:00 AM to reach the peak before dawn (sunrise occurs between 4:00 AM in summer and 5:30 AM in winter). A local guide is mandatory and can be arranged from Dong village. Nearby Highlights: Combine your trip with visits to Kaho and Kibithu, the easternmost Indian villages on the Chinese border, the 1962 Indo-China War memorials at Walong, and the hot spring at nearby Tilam village. Entry Permits: Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), obtainable online or on the spot at Arunachal's entry check-gates; foreign nationals require a Restricted/Protected Area Permit (PAP).
