By Air: Mechuka has no commercial airport of its own — there's an IAF Advanced Landing Ground at Mechuka, but civilian flights aren't regular. The nearest usable airports are Mohanbari Airport in Dibrugarh, Assam, and Lilabari in Assam, with Guwahati and Itanagar (Donyi Polo/Hollongi) offering wider connectivity. A twice-weekly helicopter service under the UDAAN scheme operates from Guwahati/Itanagar to Mechuka's Advanced Landing Ground, though it's subject to weather and availability. By Rail: Simen Chapari in Assam is the nearest railway station, though Naharlagun (near Itanagar) also offers train links to Guwahati and Delhi, followed by a long road journey. By Road: From Dibrugarh, drive to Pasighat (about 4–5 hours), then continue to Aalo (Along), the main transit hub for the region. Aalo to Mechuka distance is roughly 180–190 km, with travel time 6–8 hours in good weather, though monsoon and landslides can push this beyond 10 hours. Shared Sumo taxis operate between Aalo and Mechuka, typically departing very early morning; booking a seat a day ahead is recommended. There are two road routes from Itanagar to Aalo — via Pasighat or via Silapathar — with the Pasighat route generally preferred. Local Highlights: Don't miss the 400-year-old Samten Yongcha Monastery, the wooden Mechuka Suspension Bridge over the Yargyapchu River, Dorjeeling Village (a Memba community hamlet), and the scenic Siko Dido waterfall en route. Entry Permits: Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), obtainable online or on the spot at Arunachal's entry check-gates; foreign nationals require a Restricted/Protected Area Permit (PAP).
