By Rail: Nongjrong has no direct rail link. Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest major railhead, from where travelers continue by road via Shillong. By Road: From Shillong, Nongjrong is about 47–65 km away (accounts vary), taking roughly 1.5 to 3 hours by car through the East Khasi Hills. From Cherrapunji, it's about 69 km, roughly a 2.5-hour drive via SH 5. From Guwahati, expect around 144 km and 4–5 hours by road via NH6. Hiring a private taxi from Shillong is the most convenient option, since public buses run less frequently to this remote village. The Sunrise Trek: Visitors typically leave Shillong around 3:00 AM to reach Nongjrong before dawn, then hike roughly 20–30 minutes uphill to the viewpoint. The trek is short but can be steep, so sturdy shoes are recommended. A small entry fee (around ₹30) applies, with basic refreshments like tea and Maggi noodles sometimes available locally. Where to Stay: Since Nongjrong itself has limited accommodations, many travelers stay in nearby homestays or guesthouses in West Jaintia Hills (around 10–12 km away) the night before, avoiding a long pre-dawn drive.
