Sohra, widely known worldwide as Cherrapunji, sits in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, perched on a dramatic plateau roughly 600 meters above the surrounding valleys. Once among the wettest places on Earth, it remains famous for its living root bridges, plunging waterfalls, limestone caves, and deep Khasi cultural roots, with the state government officially restoring its original name, Sohra.

By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (Umroi), about 80 km away, though flight connections are limited. Most travelers instead fly into Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, roughly 150–155 km away, offering far better connectivity, followed by a road journey via Shillong. By Rail: There is no direct rail link to Sohra. Guwahati Railway Station, about 150 km away, is the nearest major railhead, from where travelers continue by shared taxi, Sumo, or bus via Shillong. By Road: From Shillong, Sohra is about 55–60 km away, taking roughly 2–3 hours through scenic routes past the Mawkdok Dympep Valley. From Guwahati, the journey takes around 4–5 hours by road via Shillong. Shared Sumos, taxis, and buses connect Shillong's Police Bazaar and Barabazar areas to Sohra Market regularly. Local Highlights: Don't miss Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall, the Mawsmai and Arwah caves, and the trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge via Tyrna village.
