By Air: The nearest airports are Guwahati (about 219 km) and Shillong (about 296 km), from where onward travel continues entirely by road. By Rail: There's no direct rail link. Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest major railhead, followed by a long road journey into the Garo Hills. By Road: From Shillong or Guwahati, drive to Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills district, taking around 7–9 hours over a rugged mountain route. From Baghmara, continue about 2 hours by road to Emangre or Dabalgre village, the base points for the trek. From Emangre/Dabalgre, hire a local 4x4 vehicle for the final rugged stretch of about 15 km (45 minutes to an hour) toward the trailhead, as roads here are unpaved and off-road vehicles are essential. The Trek: From the drop-off point, a moderately steep 1.5 km (30–45 minute) trek through bamboo forests leads down to the canyon. At the base, local Garo guides provide kayaks, canoes, or rafts to explore the narrow turquoise gorge, with swimming spots along the way (river depth reaches about 45 feet, so life jackets are recommended). Where to Stay: Basic homestays in Emangre, Dabalgre, or Baghmara offer simple bamboo huts with local Garo meals; connectivity and electricity are limited, so it's best to prepare for a digital detox. Nearby Highlights: Combine your trip with visits to Siju Caves (one of India's longest cave systems), the Jadisil Fish Sanctuary, and Nokrek Biosphere Reserve for a fuller Garo Hills experience.
